Texas Hold'em hand rankings

In Texas Hold'em, choose the best five of seven available cards. From strongest to weakest: straight flush (including royal flush), four of a kind, full house, flush, straight, three of a kind, two pair, one pair and high card.

An ace can be high in A-K-Q-J-10 or low in A-2-3-4-5; it cannot wrap around. Suits do not break ties.

Poker hands from strongest to weakest

  1. Straight flush: five consecutive cards of one suit. A royal flush is its highest form.
  2. Four of a kind: four cards of one rank plus a kicker.
  3. Full house: three cards of one rank plus a pair.
  4. Flush: five cards of one suit that are not consecutive.
  5. Straight: five consecutive ranks without all five cards sharing a suit.
  6. Three of a kind: three cards of one rank plus two kickers.
  7. Two pair: two different pairs plus a kicker.
  8. One pair: one pair plus three kickers.
  9. High card: the best five cards when there is no pair or stronger hand.

Compare the hand category first, then the relevant card ranks and kickers. Only five cards count, even when all seven are available.
